Why does culturally matched support matter in Western Sydney?
Western Sydney is one of the most culturally diverse parts of Australia, so a worker who shares your language or background can make support feel more natural and respectful.
Families across Western Sydney come from many places, including Vietnamese, Arabic-speaking, Chinese, Indian, Filipino, Pacific Islander and African communities. Many households have several generations living together, and decisions about care often involve the whole family.
Enrichment Care has carers from more than 30 cultural and minority backgrounds, including Burmese-, Chinese- and Korean-speaking workers. We ask about the things that matter at home, such as:
- the language you or your parents prefer
- food rules, fasting periods and religious practices
- whether you prefer a male or female worker for personal care
- how your family likes to be kept in the loop
We cannot promise every language in every suburb, but we will always check. Learn more about culturally matched disability support.
Where can a support worker take me in Western Sydney?
A support worker can take you almost anywhere that helps you reach your goals, from Parramatta Park to local shopping centres, sporting clubs and cultural festivals.
Western Sydney has plenty of open space. Western Sydney Parklands, Parramatta Park and the Nepean River foreshore in Penrith are good for walks and picnics. Local libraries in Parramatta, Blacktown and Liverpool run free groups and activities.
Other popular outings include:
- shopping at Westfield Parramatta, Westfield Penrith or Westfield Liverpool
- food shopping in Cabramatta, Harris Park or Auburn
- watching the Eels, Wanderers or Panthers play at home
- visiting temples, mosques, churches and community halls
Your worker helps you plan, travel and take part, so you can build your skills and social life. Over time, many people find they can do parts of these outings on their own. See how community participation works.
How do people with disability get around Western Sydney?
Most people in Western Sydney travel by train, bus, the Parramatta Light Rail or Sydney Metro using an Opal card or contactless payment, and some workers can drive you if that is in your plan.
The T1 and T2 train lines connect Penrith, Blacktown, Parramatta and Liverpool. The Liverpool to Parramatta T-way buses and the Metro line through Rouse Hill and Castle Hill fill in the gaps. Distances can be long, so your worker will help plan routes with lifts and accessible stops.
If you hold an NSW Companion Card, your worker may get free entry at participating venues and events. Check with the venue or transport operator before you go.
Some people want to travel on their own one day. A worker can practise trips with you, such as getting to TAFE, work or a day program, until you feel ready. Read about travel and transport support.
How do I start with Enrichment Care in Western Sydney?
Call 1300 543 123 or use our find your support worker page, and we will talk about your needs, your routine and the kind of worker you want.
We then send you profiles of workers who live or work near you. Many of our Western Sydney workers come from the same communities they support. You pick who you want to meet.
The meet and greet happens at your home or another place you feel comfortable, and family members are welcome. If the match feels right, we set up a service agreement and a start date.
We also support people with complex needs, mental health conditions and histories of criminal convictions. If other services have not worked out, talk to us. We will be honest about what we can offer.
Moving from another provider? We can help you check your notice period and sort out the paperwork, so your supports carry on without a gap.
